According to Global PPC Click Fraud 2020-21 report, clicks frauds reached a record high in 2020.
The study found that 11% of all search ad clicks are fraudulent or invalid. Among all ad types, display ads received the highest click fraud, with 36% of all clicks being fraudulent. Display ads were followed by CTV ads, with 17% of all CTV impressions being fraudulent.
The average yearly loss for SMBs during 2020 was around $14,900, while digital agencies’ losses were at $207,000 and SMEs’ losses were at $705,000. Though the click frauds were already rising, its growth was accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The education sector saw the highest click fraud rates last year, while the travel saw the lowest levels. Automated bots and bot fraud drove the majority of these fraudulent activities. Click fraud is further expected to increase by 16% overall in 2021.
