In the US, over 95% audiences delivered to publishers by “Facebook News” were new and hadn’t previously interacted with outlets.
Facebook announced its decision to take its dedicated news tab outside of the US to the UK in January. The news tab highlights key news updates from a listing approved by Facebook and features content aligned with the users’ interests.
Publishers seeking to appear on the news tab must be approved by Facebook. The eligibility check includes analysis of misinformation via third-party fact-checkers, abuse of community standards, click-bait, engagement bait and more.
However, UK Facebook users can choose to receive their news content from the news tab or consume content from the regular news feed. Publishers like Archant, Conde Nast, The Economist, ESI Media, Guardian Media Group, and more have already signed deals with the platform, states Facebook.
