According to Strategy Analytics, 5G’s boost to data traffic and data revenue will help mobile operators.
With people spending more time at home, worldwide revenue on content consumed on mobile devices will increase by 28% in 2020. As mobile content consumption continues to grow along with increasing 5G penetration, mobile media revenue will approach $860 billion by 2025.
Advertising is expected to constitute 25% of the multi-billion pie, while premium services are expected to take 22%. In the premium segment, apps and games are expected to make up a significant chunk of the revenue.
5G networks would enable brands to deliver better rich media experiences like AR and cloud gaming. Strategy Analytics’ VP David Kerr said publishers should “understand, rather than assume,” which market segments are willing to pay a premium for immersive mobile experiences.
