Dispersed locations and a strong local presence will buffer the pandemic's impact on coffee shops, affecting them lesser then others.
According to a recent IGD research, by 2022, UK’s food-to-go market would be about 88% of 2019’s value levels. A full recovery could happen in 2022 with only a degree of bounce-back expected in 2021.
The sector will contract by 43% in 2020 to £10.8 billion before it grows to £16.7 billion over the next two years. However, store closures and estate sizes of the food-to-go market could get smaller in 2022 as compared to 2019.
Quick-service restaurants are anticipated to be most resilient due to their value offerings. IGD’s Nicola Knight says, “Changes in consumer behaviours throughout this period offer up opportunities but food-to-go businesses need to be quick to grab them”.
