Content with 1,000 words or less has the highest average share counts

Fractl analysed over 5,000 articles and found that the most-linked articles are approximately 695 words in length.

Content with less than 700 words is more likely to earn most backlinks on an average. The study analysed content across verticals and found that content with 1,000 words or less has the highest average share counts.

The topmost-linked articles with at least 50 backlinks were “How-to articles”, “General articles”, and “List/general articles”. However, “How-to article” (14,475), “List/video” (10,251), and “How-to article w/ video” (8,623) are content types with the most shared articles.

Some of the most shared content types are sports, sex and relationships and fitness. The angry reaction is the most used response on Facebook across verticals. With engagement and social media activity impacting the evergreen score, the average score for all articles was 5.5 out of 30.
