The new controls were proven effective for conducting interviews, panel discussions and more.

After months of testing with selected users, Twitter rolls out its Tweet control options for all users on iOS, Android, and Twitter.com. Users can choose from three reply control options before they Tweet. These being, “Everyone”, “People you Follow”, and “Only people you mention”.

Tweets with “People you Follow” and “Only people you mention” settings will be labelled, and the reply icon will be greyed out for people who can’t reply. However, people who can’t reply, can still Retweet, Retweet with Comment, share, and like those tweets.

Twitter says it’s also working on improving labels for reply-restricted tweets and including options for inviting people into the conversation. The tests found that people felt more comfortable tweeting, and more protected from spam and abuse.
