The video game industry revenues rose 52% to reach $977 million in sales during May 2020, as NPD Group’s report. Season-to-date revenues are 18% higher to $5.5 billion so far in 2020, while year-to-date revenues were highest in eight years.
Software game sales grew 67% to $438 million in May 2020 and hardware sales from gaming platforms were 56% higher to $235 million. Accessories and game card revenues improved 32% to $304 million.
However, May results were down from April’s 73% growth, which recorded total revenue of $1.5 billion. The best-selling games in May were “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare,” “Grand Theft Auto V,” “Animal Crossing: New Horizons,” and more.
