Facebook’s $130 million trust fund was set up to finance all oversight operations of the board.

Facebook has announced the first 20 members for its global independent oversight board for content, with four co-chairs and 16 other members. These members are independent of Facebook and all other social media companies and aren’t Facebook’s employees either.

The board will be responsible for reviewing any content enforcement decisions made by Facebook and ensure those decisions are consistent with Facebook and Instagram’s policies. Michael McConnell one of the co-chairs states, “The board is going to bring a higher degree of safety and political neutrality to the Facebook platform”.

The board’s members are from across the globe and can collectively speak at least 29 languages. Facebook said that the board is professionally diverse, representing a range of accomplishments, experiences, and backgrounds.
