New live-streaming features will be added to both Facebook and Instagram.

To expand its video chat capabilities, Facebook has announced a suite of new products, among which Messenger Rooms is one. It will allow up to 50 people to video chat in a virtual hangout. And users will be allowed to join or leave at their discretion.

Messenger Rooms will have features like augmented reality filters and users will be able to start Rooms from Messenger and Facebook. The feature will be made available to users globally in the next few weeks.

Facebook is also doubling the capacity for video calls on WhatsApp from four to eight people, and adding video call capability to Facebook Dating. CEO Mark Zuckerberg says the new video features were built with “the company’s shift toward creating more private messaging tools”.
