Online grocery searches in the UK grew 385% in March, amid the pandemic

Yext studied online consumer search behaviour during the COVID-19 pandemic across the world.

The report states COVID-19 has dramatically influenced online search behaviour among consumers around the world. In the UK, online grocery searches saw the highest average increase of all countries with 385% growth in March. Online grocery orders peaked at 445% above the usual mid-March.

Online searches for restaurants in the UK and France dropped to 5% of normal levels. Searches for directions to hospitals dropped 70%, while clicks to phone emergency rooms grew 57% in North America.

Searches for hotels were also trending downwards, with a 54% drop in March, and clicks for directions were 95% below normal. Luxury product searches and related actions like clicks to websites declined 95% below the normal levels in Germany in March.
