The current pandemic has not only disrupted the news cycle but has also changed America’s news consumption habits. Roughly six out 10 US consumers said they are consuming more local news after the COVID-19 outbreak, with 29% consuming more local public radio and regional newspapers.
86% of consumers believe the virus would leave an impact on local businesses. Half of the Americans are planning to support local businesses, which could have been otherwise “crushed” by lockdown and ongoing competition from ecommerce giants like Amazon. 25% of them said they are already supporting local businesses.
