Fractl’s study cited in the article revealed that over 1 in 3 US business owners have little or no knowledge about how Google determines search ranking.

The report found that over 70% of business owners in the US consider SEO important for their business’ health. Companies can enhance their online presence by learning more about SEO.

However, the study also states that nearly 1 in 4 business owners and 2 in 5 non-business owners are “not at all or only vaguely familiar” with SEO. Over 900 Americans were surveyed for the study, out of which 394 were business owners.

Respondents were quizzed on SEO elements like alt texts, backlinks and organic search among others. On average business owners scored 48.7% (an F), while the non-business owners fared even worse with a score of 38.7% (F-).
