More local authorities can access Facebook’s Local Alert tool to update communities on coronavirus

Facebook has announced that it is letting more local authorities access its Local Alerts tool, to help them share critical information about Covid-19 with their communities. More municipal governments, states, and local emergency response organisations and law enforcement agencies will have access to the Local Alerts tool.

Among other efforts, Facebook is also providing free Facebook ad credits to relevant organisations. The company will also provide additional training to relevant groups on the Local Alerts tool to encourage best practices.

Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg also said that Facebook will raise up to $20 million in donations across two separate fundraisers for COVID-19 research. Zuckerberg will also be contributing funds through The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative.
