The apps were baiting users into clicking on ads that interfered with user experience on their devices.
This piece states that as a part of Google’s crackdown on mobile ad fraud and disruptive ads, the tech giant has removed 600 apps from the Play Store. The company has also banned the developers of those apps from its monetisation platforms.
Google’s Senior Product Manager for Ad Traffic Quality, Per Bjorke said the banned apps not only violated the company’s advertising policies but also disallowed interstitial policy. Though most disruptive ads were found within the app, usage of out-of-context ads has also increased.
Bjorke added that these ads result in poor user experience, while also disrupting essential device functions. These ads can also lead to unintentional ad clicks and “waste advertiser spend.”
