MediaPRO’s 2020 State of Privacy and Security Awareness Report finds that US employees lack confidence and awareness about cybersecurity.

The report states that almost two-thirds of the employees surveyed were uncertain if their companies are liable to comply with the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), which came into force last month. There is also a similar hesitation about the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

While only a quarter said they struggled to identify a phishing email, a mere 17% felt “very confident” about identifying a social engineering attack. 58% of employees didn’t think storing sensitive data in an unsecured location could be a potential policy violation.

A substantial percentage of employees are unaware about good cybersecurity practises and privacy regulations. More than 50% of respondents were “vulnerable” due to their reported practices and attitudes.
