For the first time since Google bought YouTube in 2006, has Google revealed the contribution of YouTube’s ad revenue. YouTube has generated $15 billion in ad revenue in 2019 as shared in Alphabet’s Q4 earnings report.
Additionally, the platform generated about $5 billion in ad revenue in last three months. Annually, Google states that YouTube contributes 10% to Google’s overall revenue. The article estimates that this would mean that YouTube’s ad business is about one fifth the size of Facebook’s.
YouTube has over 20 million subscribers across its Premium and Music Premium offerings. Further, it has over 2 million subscribers to its paid TV service. Google Search generated $98.1 billion in 2019 and YouTube grew from $11.2 billion in 2018 to $15.15 billion in 2019, a 36.5% hike.
