The tech giant has stopped charging partners for referral links on Google Flights.

Google has decided to remove the “ads” and “sponsored” labels from Google flight search listings as it tries to increase its footprint in the travel industry. The alphabet-owned company aims to make itself a favoured travel destination with better tools and content.

The move is expected to increase Google My Business listings by travel marketers. This piece says that Google’s announcement will also lead to more paid search advertising for travel companies.

The California-based company is already being viewed as a direct competitor by established travel brands like Expedia.  A recent Bloomberg report claimed that Trip Advisor is cutting “hundreds of jobs” in response to Google’s competition.
