Its new Paris office will enable its expansion in Europe.
Netflix recently announced the opening of its new office in Paris, and indicated a content roadmap which will nearly double its number of French language originals. The streaming service will add 20 new productions to establish its corporate presence in the French capital.
Their aim is to diversify its show and movie line-up to attract international viewers. This is not only because its US subscriber growth has peaked, but also due to the rising competition from domestic giants.
Another reason for this expansion is the European Parliament’s new regulation which states that for streaming services to run in the EU, they must carry at least 30% of content that is originally produced in the region. Further, this investment may mend Netflix’s relationship with the Cannes Film Festival, after their showdown in 2018.
