A self-serve model of purchase could emerge.
This piece highlights some key takeaways for retailers from Consumer Electronics Show (CES), 2020. AI-driven and software-based products are expected to help deliver personalised experiences at scale.
Driven by a desire for efficiency and the “Amazon effect”, a move towards a shopper self-service model is underway. This would mean having in-store robots and self-serve digital displays which make use of gestures to select products.
Another feature on display at CES was, in-store tracking analytics which is used for facial recognition, and infrared laser sensors that help retailers track customers. FaceMe is an example as it used facial recognition to track unique visitor visits, their gender, age and emotional state. To overcome the expensive last-mile logistics, expect robots being used to deliver within a set mile radius or delivery drones.
