Facebook developing its own OS to cut dependency on Android

This article cites a report by The Information as per which Facebook is creating an OS of its own to reduce its dependency on Android. The company’s Oculus and Portal devices currently run on a modified Android version.

Facebook’s head of hardware, Andrew Bosworth, the move is so that “the next generation has a space for us”. He adds that, “We don’t think we can trust the marketplace or competitors to ensure that’s the case.”  

Additionally, Facebook is also currently working on augmented reality glasses under a project name titled “Orion”. These could hit the market in 2023, reportedly.
