This feature has been launched to stop the spread of misinformation.

Instagram and Facebook have rolled out new features to combat fake news and bullying. The AI-powered feature is an extension of an existing feature. It will warn users that depending on their choice of words, their caption looks similar to that of others that have been reported for bullying.

This feature will label content that is deemed to be false and so, minimises the distribution of “flagged content” from the Instagram Explorer and hashtag pages. Such a feature has been developed to “combat content that has been rated as false or partly false by a third-party-fact checker.”

Through image-matching technology, Instagram will find more instances of false content and label it to arrest the spread of misinformation. Identical content on Facebook or Instagram will be automatically labelled as well.
