400 communications directors were surveyed for the research.

A Speak Media study revealed that communications directors are experiencing “content chaos” since skills and resources are in short supply, business units are fragmented and deadlines are tight. Nine in 10 in-house communication leaders face frequent challenges with content creation.

A lack of measurement and analytics is the biggest issue for 33% of respondents, while 29% of participants face regular issues with content silos. Poor visual content and a lack of editorial strategy were other issues identified.

George Theohari, head of content at Speak Media points out that this “content chaos” could lead to “huge issues” for companies next year. He adds that large-scale communications teams are in need of specific editorial expertise required to lead and co-ordinate multi-channel news team “that will satisfy a brand’s many channels and stakeholders.”
