It could be an alternate method of confirming a user’s identity to unlock their Facebook profile.

Facebook is reportedly testing a new process for a facial recognition system. This feature could let users verify their identity by sharing a video selfie. Users will have to angle their head in different angles for the system to completely record what a user looks like.

The author states that Facebook has been developing face ID systems “for the past couple of years.” In 2017, it was reported that a recognition system would be beneficial particularly when a user is unable to receive a two-factor authentication SMS.

This makes it an additional method to verify a user’s identity and unlock their Facebook profile. The video selfies will be deleted 30 days after user identity has been confirmed.
