SEOs expect Google will compete directly against publishers

A survey asked 1500 SEOs to rank trends that will affect SEO in the next three years.

SEOs expect search engine giant Google to directly compete against publishers by entering verticals in the next three years, according to a survey conducted by SparkToro. The California-based company has made occasional forays into expanding into different verticals but not all, including the social network Google+, have been successful.

Respondents to the survey also expected advancements in machine learning and Artificial Intelligence to have a significant impact on SEO in the coming years. This piece says that marketers may be able to able to focus more on content as Machine learning takes over details like metadata, keyword research and alt text.

The same survey also found that SEOs do not expect the government investigations are likely to have an impact on the larger industry.
