US smart speaker market sees a 2.4% decline in Q2 2019

E-commerce giant Amazon is still the biggest seller in the smart speaker market, but China’s Baidu has taken over the second position by surpassing Google.

More than half of both Amazon and Google’s smart speaker products are being shipped out of the US. Google, which hasn’t updated its core Google Home device since its launch, has observed an overall annual decline of 19.8%.  

Canalys’s Senior Analyst Jason Low said that “experimentation with various price points and value propositioning strategies are expected”. He added that vendors should focus more on delivering voice-first interface on smart displays.
