Consumers are failing to reduce social media usage despite privacy concerns

People are putting themselves at increased risk by not playing safe with their personal data.

This piece cites a Kaspersky report stating that more than 56% of 12,000 consumers studied across 21 countries think total privacy is impossible in the “modern digital world”. The report also says that one in three users are not sure of how to secure their privacy online.

The survey also reveals that one in five users are willing to share private data in exchange for freebies.  The report suggests that combining practical steps, like not sharing passwords and denying third parties access to data, with security products, can help minimise threats.

According to another research by Insights West conducted in Canada, more than 81% of Canadians are worried about news and information are shown to them on social media. 65% of them also reported being concerned about targeted and behaviour-based advertising.
