Google My Business introduces new tools for local businesses

More than 150 million businesses use Google My Business platform since its launch in 2014.

This article states that Google will now allow users to follow business and track its updates on Google Maps. The move, which puts it in direct competition to Facebook Pages, will also enable businesses to read reviews and respond to consumer queries.

Businesses will now be able to set up detailed business profiles on Google and make it easier to locate the physical location of the business. The new features will enable brands to upload photos, add logos, set profile cover picture and claim a short name as well as URL.

This piece states customers will shortly be able to search businesses with their short names on Google Maps. Google Business’s Amir Fish explained that these features would help consumers quickly find the business that best suits their needs, while also helping local businesses to stand out.
