John Bercow, the Speaker of the House of Commons, has ruled that male MPs do not need to wear ties when in the House of Commons, but must still dress in "business‑like attire". The move has been welcomed by some as bringing Parliament into the 21st Century, but one MP claimed the move "reduces the esteem of Parliament".
