A famous UN diplomatic representative is visiting the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda to help fight sexual violence in conflict—and William Hague is going along, too.

Angelina Jolie and William Hague have joined forces in a campaign to stop the use of rape as a tool of war, an issue which Ms Jolie said is often "an afterthought". Ms Jolie, who is a UN special envoy, also emphasized the strength of the Congolese people.

Mr Hague made the trip as part of a wider initiative to fight sexual violence in conflict he announced last May. He said: "Sexual violence in conflict has to be resolved if conflicts are going to be resolved.

Yesterday the pair travelled to a refugee camp outside Goma, near one of the most conflict-ridden regions of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
