Speaking to Eddie Mair this Sunday, London Mayor Boris Johnson was hammered with questions about his past and his "integrity".

During a particularly intense portion of the exchange Mr Mair asked Mr Johnson whether he was in fact "a nasty piece of work".

Eddie Mair, who was standing in for Andrew Marr on the BBC's The Andrew Marr Show, also grilled Mr Johnson about his dismissal from The Times, accusations that he lied to then-Tory Leader Michael Howard about an affair, and a phone call that revealed Mr Johnson telling a friend he would give him the private address of a reporter whom the friend had threatened to assault.

The interview comes ahead of a BBC Two documentary on Boris Johnson's political life, called Boris Johnson: The Irresistible Rise. The documentary airs tonight at 9pm.

A clip of the interview quickly made the rounds on social media, and within hours Mr Johnson had hit back at Mr Mair for the "hysterical quiz".
