Who's doing better on the retail policy offering? In a new YouGov poll for Red Box, I compared two initiatives
I asked about the Conservatives' proposal on inheritance tax, and Labour's plan to cut of tuition fees.
The first was supported by 59%, the second by 68%. I also asked who this would mainly benefit: for the inheritance tax cuts, 41% said the 'the richest', while only 9% thought that for the tuition fees cut.
I concluded: "Both the policy for inheritance tax and for a university tuition fee cut will be partly paid for by reducing the pension relief available for better off pensioners.
If you had to choose, do you think this money should be spent on raising the inheritance tax threshold or cutting university tuition fees?" 28% chose 'raising the inheritance tax threshold, 56% chose 'cutting university tuition fees'. A pretty convincing policy win for Labour.
