Four in ten voters say the Green party should be given significant coverage by the broadcasters

Ofcom has said that Ukip should be considered one of the "main parties" and therefore should be entitled to at least two election broadcasts, but that the Greens do not qualify for that. In a YouGov poll for Red Box, we asked which parties people consider to be one of the "main parties". Conservatives and Labour scored 93% each, the Lib Dems 58%, Ukip 22%, and the Greens 11%.

We also asked people to say which parties should be given significant coverage by broadcasters "in your part of the country". Here the numbers were somewhat closer - Labour on 83%; Conservatives on 81%; the Lib Dems 68%; Ukip 48% and the Greens 40%, with the SNP scoring 66 per cent in Scotland. This suggests people would like to see smaller parties getting more serious coverage than Ofcom would be willing to impose.
