Women are feeling the effects of the British economic recession more than their male counterparts, according to a recent YouGov SixthSense report into the British mindset.

74% of female respondents are concerned about their personal financial situation, compared to 68% of men. The report brings to light differences between men and women over their approach to the economic downturn – for example, 55% of women aged 25-39 claim to have used their overdraft facility in the past 12 months in comparison to the 28% average across all age groups, and compared to the 46% average for men in the same age category.

The success of attempts to secure loans also differs by gender - 23% of women aged 25-39 have found it difficult to obtain credit in the past two years, and females in this age group also constitute the largest grouping currently seeking professional help to deal with mounting debt.

The report builds on these finds by highlighting many more of the recessional trends among men and women, with women shown to be more keenly affected in the areas of personal finances, employment and social security.
