A plurality of large businesses in Britain are affected by poor indoor mobile coverage and capacity, according to a YouGov survey commissioned by SpiderCloud Wireless.

Almost four in ten (39%) managers with IT decision making responsibility from large businesses say that their businesses have experienced issues with poor in-building mobile coverage and/or capacity. The survey also reveals that 35% of IT managers whose businesses have a mobile operator say that they would be prepared to move to a wireless carrier that could guarantee a better indoor solution.

Solutions to coverage and capacity problems

The survey for SpiderCloud Wireless found that IT managers had undertaken various methods to solve their in-building coverage and capacity issues.

  • A quarter (25%) of IT managers whose businesses have had a problem say that they have spoken to their mobile operator for assistance but they were unable to help
  • 28% of these people say their businesses have installed a wireless system to improve coverage and/or capacity issues
  • Almost two in ten (19%) IT managers have looked into installing a system but are yet to do so

Mobile Device Management and Wi-Fi

Nearly half (47%) of IT managers are interested in Mobile Device Management as an operator-hosted service to manage, monitor, secure and support mobile devices in the enterprise. Four in ten (40%) IT managers also demonstrated an interest in Wi-Fi as a service from their operator.

Art King, Director of Enterprise Services & Technologies at SpiderCloud Wireless said: “Too many businesses suffer from not only patchy indoor coverage in their premises, but also capacity issues that mean dropped calls, late texts and substandard data rates. Not surprisingly, a high number of businesses say they would churn to an operator that could guarantee better service – but the fact that they haven’t already suggests that far from being an operator-dependent issue, it is actually all too common.”

SpiderCloud.com develops small-cell network platforms that allow mobile operators to deliver unprecedented cellular coverage, capacity and smart applications to enterprises.
