A majority of public believe Prince William should be allowed to serve in Afghanistan
A majority (60%) of the British public believe that Prince William, the heir to the throne, should be allowed to serve in the war in Afghanistan, while 28% think it would be wrong for him to serve in a war zone and 12% don’t know, according to a YouGov poll.
William, Duke of Cambridge, is an RAF Flight Lieutenant and works as a Search and Rescue Force pilot based at RAF Valley on the island of Anglesey, in Wales. He has never seen active service because it is considered too dangerous. His brother, Prince Harry, is currently a Captain in the Army Air Corps and has recently returned from active service in Afghanistan.
In an interview published this week, Prince Harry said his brother was “jealous” of his tour of duty, and expressed his belief that the Duke should be allowed to go to Afghanistan to fly helicopters with emergency medical crews on board to pick up casualties. No future monarch has served in a war zone since George VI, however, who served with the Royal Navy during the First World War.

Meanwhile, 82% of the British public think it was right to allow Prince Harry to serve in Afghanistan, while only 9% believe it was wrong and 9% don’t know.
